The MHS garden is led by a student club known as the Garden Squad, which is guided by a garden manager. Students choose what to plant and are responsible for caring for these crops. The garden is largely run on a volunteer basis, but some students are employed by the school to ensure that the crops are maintained and cultivated during the summer months.
Students grow vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers, which they sell at farm stands held either on campus or at community events or local farmers markets. The Garden Squad also provides bouquets and arrangements for special events.
The MHS Garden Squad has competed at Freshtoberfest in recent years. This one-day event pairs local garden teams with chefs, and together they compete using their garden’s produce to create fresh and unique dishes.
