The Montessori Adolescent School Consortium
Schools that have made an official connection to Montessori High School at University Circle automatically join a cooperating school consortium coordinated for adolescent study by the high school.
Hershey Montessori School (in Concord Township and Huntsburg, Ohio) has established the first residential, land-based Montessori adolescent program (ages 12-15) in the United States, which has become a national study model for the annual summer teacher development program of the North American Montessori Teachers' Association (NAMTA). To complete its mission, the High School must work closely at the pedagogical level with the Hershey Montessori School adolescent program on the farm, located in Huntsburg, Ohio. Both schools will exchange rural and urban activities and resources.
Ruffing Montessori School East (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) totals more than 30 adolescents in the 7th and 8th grades and has just completed a green building expansion project enhancing the ecology orientation of its whole-school program, which culminates in its adolescent studies.
Ruffing Montessori School West (Rocky River, Ohio) has the oldest Montessori adolescent program in the United States, which was founded by John McNamara in 1976, today has more than 50 students, and is a nationally recognized urban model.
Hudson Montessori School (Hudson, Ohio), founded in 1962, has recently begun an adolescent program predicated on "pedagogy of place," utilizing principles emerging from NAMTA's Center for Montessori Adolescent Studies, and actualizing Montessori's plan for work and study as a village model.
The Lillian and Betty Ratner School (Pepper Pike, Ohio) has an early childhood Montessori program for ages 18 months to 6 years, and a Montessori-like program for ages 6-14. Barbara Miller, Chairperson of the Board, has played a partnership role in the initial conception of Montessori High School.
The Montessori School at Holy Rosary (12009 Mayfield Road, Cleveland, in the Little Italy neighborhood) is currently reviewing a middle school development plan that would make it a feeder school in close geographical proximity to Montessori High School. The High School will thus complete the educational continuum from ages 3 to 18 within the combined environments of University Circle and adjacent Little Italy.
Tremont Montessori School is a public pre-K through 9 th grade program in the Cleveland Municipal Schools which has an interest in reforming its comprehensive program. It is currently looking to the leadership of a strong Montessori center within the city limits for guidance in getting back to its Montessori roots.
Oak Farm Montessori School (ages 18 months to 15 years, north of Fort Wayne, Indiana) has a farm-based middle school program and is considering a high school, which has been assisted by the NAMTA Center for Montessori Adolescent Studies.
